Sofia was first diagnosed April 2015 (WT Stage III), and did radiation and chemotherapy for 6 months. She completed that, and we all thought she was cancer free over a year ago. After clear scans for a year, x-ray and CT scan showed lung nodules 2 weeks ago. They biopsied as the same Wilms Tumor cancer, and so we are starting a new set of drugs-she is now Stage IV because of the lung metastasis. She will have to be admitted to Children’s Hospital for chemo treatments this time, and cannot do chemo in Steamboat like last time. Each treatment takes 4 days, and her treatment plan is 5 months long. It will also include whole lung radiation therapy. We do not know exactly when that will be, but will also be in Denver at the CU Hospital. Doctors expect the cancer will respond to chemo and radiation, and so even though the drugs will be more intense, the path forward for us is clear.  Everybody, including the Steamboat community, was hugely supportive of Sofía during her last treatment, and we are so grateful for that!
