Researching the Medical Literature

RESEARCHING THE MEDICAL LITERATURE

The following links are provided for parents who wish to research the medical literature for information on their child’s cancer and its treatment.

PubMed

PubMed is a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine that includes over 17 million citations from MEDLINE and other life science journals for biomedical articles back to the 1950s. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.

Ped-onc Resource Center

Discussion of how to search the medical journals and provides links to several journal web sites.

Association of Cancer Online Resources (ACOR)

ACOR’s search function scans the MedLine literature for recent additions in a particular disease type. It’s easier than searching MedLine/PubMed because you don’t have to go in and set search limits/dates. Most of the pediatric cancers are listed.

Steven Dunn prepared an article to help patients and caretakers gain the knowledge of “how to” research and locate medical literature via the internet.
