Gold Ribbon Hero Ethan S

Gold Ribbon Hero Ethan S

Reason this person is a Gold Ribbon Hero: I as mother of my child personally know what it’s like to make it past my retinoblastoma diagnose when I was 6 months old and to go into remission and live cancer free after years of check ups and tmheavy treatment. Majir difference from then and now because my treatment was heavy day after day for over 6 months and his was much easier and less time consuming then back then. Doctors always remind one to stay cautious cause major changes can result in new issues. I passed all of my elementary, middle school and up until out of high school perfectly fine. I got pregnant at the age of 22. As a result of high level of hormones and prenatal vitamins a benign meningioma surged on the left side of my brain during pregnancy.  I did brain surgery right out of emergency c- section doctirs were scared triggered seizures woukd affect baby. I still had seizures and took medication, and did radiation to become better. But once i was a bit more comfortable and stable I come to find out my son also inherited cancer. He was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma at his age of one. I have come to find out his strength and energy is much more uplifting that I thought. My son Ethan just let’s me know that if he’s doing fine through procedures and treatment and has been stable patient a year after he started treatment that mommy can be ok. I’ll live with the brain tumor fine, take care of myself as long as my son is better I know I’ll have the courage and strength to pull through anything just to be with him always. As both retinoblastoma warriors and I  a current brain cancer fighter my son will always amaze me that as a child nothing can beat his spirits down and that his strength surely encourages me to support him for as long as live.” – Natalia C

Gold Ribbon Hero Sereen A

Reason this person is a Gold Ribbon Hero: Sereen was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor Stage III at the tiny age of 2.  She had a 3lb tumor engulfing her right kidney.

After surgically removing the tumor and the right kidney, Sereen went through 5 days of radiation treatment and 6 months of chemotherapy.

According to her oncology team at the time, Sereen would be in remission and on her way back to a healthy life despite only having one remaining kidney.

At the one year mark of finding out she has cancer, her labs continue to come out abnormal, specifically her urine tests.

After consulting various pediatric nephrologists, consultations with oncology team, collaboration with researchers in the medical field, Sereen was hospitalized yet again.

During this 2nd round, Sereen’s remaining kidney was determined unhealthy.

Sereen continues to be monitored by both her pediatric oncology and nephrology team, with frequent lab work.

We don’t know what the future holds and all we could do is truly live in the present.

This is why Sereen is a Gold Ribbon Hero.  She always reminds us the value of our lives, being in the present, and her endless courage.” – Asma A

Gold Ribbon Hero Kaylee M

Reason this person is a Gold Ribbon Hero: No matter how sick Kaylee feels or how low her counts are, this little girl fights with a smile on her face. She has pushed herself to stay in school throughout her treatments and when she was unable to be at school she continued to study both academically and practicing her saxophone so she did not fall behind her classmates. She always stays positive and remains very humble despite the attention she has gained through promoting awareness of childhood cancer. She is an excellent role model for our students and hopes one day to help other children fighting this terrible disease.” – Samantha O

Gold Ribbon Hero Kassidy P

Reason this person is a Gold Ribbon Hero: Kassidy was 3 years old when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and ever since then she has been fighting her like a champion. She goes through treatment like a superhero with no tears or no fighting. She has had many setbacks and still continues to smile and fight like no other. I’m amazed at watching this little girl have so much spirit and strength going through such tough circumstance and acting as if she knows she’s going to make it. Her strength casts off on us and helps us get through these times because our heart breaks everyday watching her have to go through this. I tell people all the time she is my STRENGTH and as long as she continues to walk this journey with grace and poise I will do the same.” – Briana B

Reason this person is a Gold Ribbon Hero: Levi was diagnosed with meningeal sarcoma when he was 10 months old. sadly he suffered a stroke from the surgery, but he never lets his weakness get him down. At 4 years old he had a reoccurnce of 5 new tumors  in the brain, With surgery not an option we opted to experiement with gamma knife, thankfully our team of surgeons were successful with the treatment.
