Gold Ribbon Hero Brendan S

“Brendan has organized Surfing 4 a Cure for the past 3 years raising over $45,000 to date towards Research at CHLA. Surfing 4 a Cure is a surf relay similar to a relay walk, where each surfer must raise money to participate. Followed by an after party with a raffle and auction to add to the funds raised. Brendan started a foundation (Everlasting Smiles Foundation) in 2010 and merged with The Young and Brave in 2013. Through his foundations, he has organized Thanksgiving dinners and Hawaiian themed dinners for families and patients at Mattel Children’s Hospital, and gave baskets with gift cards and much needed items to patients and families at CHLA and Mattel. Brendan began all his work after meeting several children through a Children’s Hospice event he attended. Along with his family, they organized a fundraiser for Trinity Kids Care in LA, which prompted him to start Everlasting Smiles Foundation. Surfing 4 a Cure has been featured on Torrance News and in Drop Zone LA Magazine, and can be followed on FaceBook.” – Katie C

Gold Ribbon Hero Jacqueline H

“Jacqueline is a survivor and fighter of neuroblastoma. Throughout her journey, she kept an infectious smile on her face and even though she was the one suffering, she was the one who kept everyone around her strong and hopeful. Since then, she has grown into an amazing young woman who continues to inspire everyone around her. Words cannot describe how strong this young lady is.” – Stephanie R

Gold Ribbon Hero Reese M

“Reese is a gorgeous 4 year old who was diagnosed with leukemia 2 Christmases ago and has been fighting this long hard battle through the most precious and innocent years of her life. Although she has undergo more in her short life than many will have to experience in a lifetime you will never see a picture that she doesn’t have a smile on her face, or a post that her mother isn’t praising The Lord for giving Miss Reese to them. They are truly amazing people and deserve every bit of recognition they can get.” – Logann D

Gold Ribbon Hero Chase V

“Has complained less than a handful of times about having cancer. He gave up baseball and basketball for the year to beat this monster. Very active young man to house bound sometimes bed bound.” – Summer V.

Gold Ribbon Hero Norah Abigail S

“Norah is a sweet and sensitive 5 year old who witnessed first hand her older brother Rohan (7 years old) being sick and diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor just 23 months ago. Rohan’s passion were Legos and so in his honor and memory, we created gold Lego ribbons to wear, to create awareness and thereby funding towards research. Norah is our child advocate who proudly wears her gold Lego ribbon everywhere and opens up conversations about her brother, the cancer and how it took away his life. Through a cancer camp she attended in June, she knows the key words Aware and Research and she is doing her best in making other kids familiar with these terms. Her one way of doing so is by offering her gold Lego ribbons to anyone who wants them for a donation. She is an active fundraiser for the Seattle Run of Hope 5K, a run that is done yearly in Sept to raise awareness and funds for Pediatric Brain Tumor Research at Seattle Children’s. Her fundraising page is http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/NorahUmdor-Singh/2014. Here is a quote from her page: ‘September is childhood cancer month and I choose to turn this month GOLD by wearing my Lego ribbon every single day and talk about my brother and cancer.'” – Cammy U-S.

Gold Ribbon Hero Andrea M

“Andrea’s daughter Mae was diagnosed with Stage 4 high risk Neuroblastoma weeks after her 2nd birthday. From the moment of this terrifying diagnosis. Andrea has become an inspiration. Her ability to face this horrible beast cancer. She has done it through humor, laughter, and tears. She has demonstrated what it means to be brave and be a true advocate for her child. But also how to be vulnerable and help others going through this overwhelming battle. She is such an incredible light, mother, wife and friend. She’s not just an advocate for her daughter but for all children fighting this beast. Mae is currently NED!!! She is in her final stages of treatment. But this family still needs our support. You can follow her on Mae’s Journey. Love you Andrea you are an inspiration to so many. You have taught all of us what it means to be present and truly live in the moment and for that I’m forever grateful.”  – Sarah M.
